The ‘ronca’ is the popular name for a signalling tower built in 1960 between the Montedor Lighthouse and the sea, also known simply as the Montedor Tower. This parallelepiped structure housed an electric siren - a type of nautical siren - whose loud sound was emitted on foggy days to alert boats of their proximity to the coast. The manually operated mechanism vibrated and ‘roncava’ (rumbled) loudly in the air (hence the name), helping navigators to avoid accidents in low visibility conditions. This tower is currently deactivated, constituting a historical curiosity of the place.
